10 values that tell you who we are
A company is not just a place where ideas are conceived, processes organized and products made. First and foremost, it’s a community of people united by a shared vision.
Over the course of our fifty-plus years in business, we’ve built a strong identity that, today, is based on a system of values informing our daily decisions and allowing us to work in unison towards a common goal.
Here are the ten values that tell you all about us and our vision
Success: a shared outcome
Success is what eventuates from connections, relationships and dynamics developed between events and people, the result of what has happened and what has been jointly built over time, resulting in a significant or valued outcome.
Success comes in many forms: it can be a favourable result or the recognition of our qualities by others or the approval of our actions from a wider public.
Duty: the commitment that unites us
Duty is a personal, moral and social obligation that a person feels compelled to fulfil, regardless of whether it’s what they want or is to their advantage. It can derive from external standards or an internal drive linked to ethical principles or personal convictions.
The paradigm shift comes when “I should” becomes “I want to”, hence when values are so strongly internalized and deep seated that the individual feels aligned with the project.
Ultimately, that sense of “I should” drives us to act in a way that we perceive as right or necessary, while the “I want to” is the product of our desires or our free will.
Growth: evolving together
Growth in a business context takes on a meaning that goes beyond just increasing our size, our numbers or improving the bottom line.
It hinges on the value of relationships, social dynamics and learning that all result from interaction between individuals, groups and the surrounding environment.
Growth is the process that leads a person, and by extension a whole company, to increase their capabilities: knowledge (knowing things), skill (knowing how) and, ultimately, awareness (knowing why).
Reliability: strength in consistency
Reliability is the ability to act in a manner based on consistency between words and actions, honouring commitments made and keeping promises. A manager, for example, is reliable when what they say aligns with what they do, and when they finish what they started.
There is a deep and tangible link between reliability and trust. The more a manager demonstrates reliability, the more effective they are in strengthening and maintaining the relationship of trust with people.
In a business context, reliability is essential for building strong, lasting relationships.
Efficiency: optimizing resources
Efficiency is the ability to achieve goals, optimizing the use of available resources, and striking a balance between quality and time.
The word comes from the Latin efficientia, which has to do with the concept of action, producing an effect.
This quality comes into its own at three distinct moments: thorough planning, timely execution and continuous improvement, thus reducing waste and maximizing results, by managing priorities and using clear and well-defined strategies.
Efficiency is not all about technical expertise: it’s also fuelled by harmonious collaboration, where each action is designed to achieve common ends in a fluid and properly coordinated manner.
Adaptability: the key to the future
Adaptability is the ability to react to change with flexible solutions, knowing how to turn challenges into growth opportunities.
Feeding off extensive knowledge and widespread open-mindedness, it generates versatility in strategies and related behaviours.
Depending on the situation, of course. In a company like Volpato Industrie, it is essential if we are to cope with the unpredictability of markets and evolution of internal dynamics, all of which encourages learning from experience and the ability to work effectively in different situations.
This mindset allows us to handle a broad spectrum of situations and come up with effective and creative solutions, even under pressure.
Professionalism: expertise and respect
Professionalism is the ability to tackle every situation with competence, commitment and respect for others, maintaining consistently high standards of quality and integrity. It’s expressed through fully developed skill sets, attention to detail and dogged commitment to achieving tangible results, tackling every situation with an ethical, competent and responsible approach.
The origin of the word can be traced back to the Latin professus, meaning to publicly declare a religious sentiment: thus it’s connected to the concept of sacredness and a state of strict and faithful observance of certain principles.
Professionalism is not all about technical expertise, it’s also about the way we connect with others: the ability to manage relationships and communicate in a clear and respectful way are fundamental attributes of a professional.
Honesty: the value of transparency
Honesty is manifested through behaviour that’s transparent, consistent and respectful of the truth, which applies as much to words as it does to actions.
It’s a principle that’s strengthened over time through a process of mutual trust and honouring commitments, representing an essential cornerstone on which to build genuine, reliable relationships.
For us, honesty can be seen as the foundation of credibility and integrity, at both a personal and collective level.
It’s reflected in open, sincere communication, in a willingness to face mistakes with accountability and in a commitment to making ethical decisions, even in tricky times.
Honesty helps create a work environment where people feel respected, confident they’re acting in the best common interest and motivated to do their very best.
Punctuality: meeting deadlines
Punctuality is the ability to meet deadlines, ensuring that commitments are fulfilled within the prescribed timeframes.
According to the Cambridge dictionary, a person who is punctual is defined as “arriving or doing something… at the expected, correct time; not late.”
A punctual person is often also seen as reliable as they’re good at planning carefully to avoid delays while optimizing resources.
Here at Volpato, this value can be seen in the sense of responsibility with which we handle deadlines, showing respect for other peoples’ time and for common goals.
Punctuality fosters a well-ordered, collaborative workplace, where mutual respect is the basis of effective productivity.
Respect: the bedrock of every relationship
Respect is a value that’s built through the continuous interaction between people, groups and the context in which they operate.
The word “respect” derives from the Latin respectus, which means “regard” or “consideration”, and reflects the importance of being considerate of others and holding them in the highest regard, actively listening to them and being receptive to different points of view to promote an environment where diversity is celebrated.
Here at Volpato, respect is the cornerstone on which to build strong, harmonious relationships. This value not only helps boost wellbeing and personal growth, but also strengthens the sense of belonging and teamwork, laying the groundwork to tackle challenges effectively and with unity.
